At Anatini, fossil whales are exposed in the rock. These fossils – part of the Vanished World trail - are under protective covers to allow easy public viewing.

Anatini means "many caves" and is the name of the property on which these unusual limestone rocks feature.

As well as fossils and bones, the Anatini Whale Fossil Site in the Waitaki Valley, features a field of interesting rock formations made from blocks of Otekaike limestone.

The film "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" was filmed in this hidden valley which lies close to the Elephant Rocks area.
This land is private property but visitors are permitted to view the rocks and fossils, please keep to the trails and do not disturb any animals.
Park at the roadside and follow the trail to the valley.
