Ordered in late 1941 to provide air defenses for Clark Field in the Phillipines, the 200th's equipment was not even unloaded when the Japanese attacked the Air Field only eight hours after Pearl Harbor. Finally on 9 April 1942 it surrendered to the Japanese 14th Army. Elements of this unit were then forced by the Japanese to march into captivity in the Bataan Death March.
While the memorial includes a 90 mm anti-aircraft gun, the 200th actually were equipped with 3-inch guns. They also had .50-caliber machine guns, and 60-inch (1.5 m) Sperry searchlights.
