St Ruprecht was the patron saint of Vienna's salt merchants and the church that takes his name overlooks the merchants' landing stage on the Danube canal. There is a statue of the saint holding a tub of salt at the foot of the tower.
The church has a Romanesque nave and bell tower, a vaulted Gothic aisle (15th century) and choir (13th century), and stained-glass windows which date back to the turn of the 14th century.
