The Colorado Welcome Center at Cortez has kiosks outside that explain both the ancient history of the American Indian natives (Anasazi who were the ancestors of Pueblo Indians) moving to the exploration by the Spanish, settlement and induction into the US territory. Other signs explore the impact the geology and climate have had on human settlement. The Colorado Welcome Center in Cortez is at 928 E. Main St. The kiosks are available 24 hours a day; the center hours vary: Memorial Day to Labor Day: 8am–6pm; Labor Day to Memorial Day: 8am–5pm; July and August: 8am–9pm; closed on major holidays. Inside the center are rest rooms, brochures about attractions throughout Colorado, maps and souvenirs.
