'The Sanctuary of Truth' (TSoT) is one of the major tourist attractions in Pattaya, and deservedly so. It is a large hand carved, wooden structure, depicting the cultural and religious beliefs of the people of the region. Work began in 1981, and is still ongoing. It is not an actual temple, rather a showcase of beliefs. Impressive.
It's intent is to reveal the alternative to western materialism (as its website tells us), however, in addition to the TSoT, the grounds also contain lots of touristy things like ATV rides, shooting range, adventure trails, dolphins, and so forth—all for a small additional cost, and including the opportunity to pay a small additional fee for a photo of yourself participating in each of these activity. Plus of course the souvenir shop and restaurant. And tips to the staff.
It is a great place to visit, schedule a day to experience the full range of activities.
The Bell—no south east Asian religious edifice would be complete without a bell. Just outside TSoT is a bell, and several other resonant instruments, including a gong. There is no plaque or visible information about the bell. It looks to be a stand Buddhist bell, designed to be struck by visitors.
