Many groups use this park for events since it's so nice and has a very large grassy area.
The City of Edmond now prohibits smoking in city parks.

A Place to Grow
Chitwood Park
W.A. Chitwood (1869-1945) moved to Oklahoma in 1892. He began teaching in rural schools in the area of Pleasant Valley-land now under Arcadia Lake. After W.A. Chitwood retired from teaching in 1921, he moved his family to Edmond. In 1925 he was elected to the City Council, and became Mayor in 1930 upon the death of Mayor G.H. Fink.
During the seven years W.A. Chitwood was Mayor, he accomplished many improvements to the city's infrastructure. The city built a sewage treatment plant, a new City Hall, paved several streets, and established municipally-owned utilities. By suggestion of the Iris Club in 1932, the City Council unanimously dedicated the newly developed park in honor of Mayor Chitwood, meeting a need for recreational area for west Edmond.
