The Guthrie was given a grant from the Carnegie foundation for a new library in 1901. The Carnegie Library was built between 1902 and 1903. In 1969, the building was given to the Oklahoma Historical Society. Today, the building is part of the Oklahoma Territorial Museum.
This museum, is probably one of the best "small" museums in Oklahoma. Exhibits include topics of the territorial land run, Louisiana Purchase, to Victorian life. Other exhibits center around this building and the Carnegie donations.
