Newly constructed memorial to local veterans. Scheduled to be dedicated on Memorial Day, 2010.

Located in Miner County, South Dakota, Howard has a population of 891, as of July 2008. This represents a 17% drop in population from the 2000 census.
Howard is the county seat of Miner County and the town was incorporated on March 14, 1885. Its settlers were made up of German, Norwegian, Irish, English, and Dutch ancestries.
This memorial was constructed in 2009. Nels Peterson American Legion Post 145 was instrumental in getting this project off the ground. Post members worked hard to raise funds for this project.
Fund-raisers were held and much support from the community and surrounding areas was had.

Description of Memorial: The Memorial is located on the junction of SD Highway 34 and Main Street, in a small park. Access to this Memorial is very easy.
At the center of the Memorial are the American Flag and the POW/MIA flag. Also, are each branch of service flags: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines.
