Today, it is just off the secondary highway linking Central Otago to Southland and few even notice it just beyond a small rise in the ground.

Edievale was never supposed to be the terminus of the Tapanui Branch of New Zealand Railways, rather it was just supposed to be a station along the way to Roxburgh. However, it was determined to extend the Lawrence Branch to Roxburgh instead. Ironically, the Roxburgh line was abandoned in 1968, while the Tapanui Branch continued for another ten years before floods extensively damaged the line.

Today, only two buildings are lived in. Yet turning off State Highway 90 it seems a bit odd there is a kerb and footpath (sidewalk) along a string of a half dozen or so buildings and the odd chimney left standing without any reason.

The Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand has an interesting picture taken during the 1920s of R H Edie's estate at Edievale (visit link)
