Jemimah Wilkinson
Known as
the Universal Friend

This historic house is located in Jerusalem in Yates County, New York, on Friend Hill Road. It is a Federal style house and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its original resident, Jemima Wilkinson, was formerly a Rhode Island Quaker. Following a serious illness, she believed that she had died and that she was returned by God to preach a message of abstinence and friendship. She changed her name to "Publick Universal Friend" and began spreading her word. Eventually, she and her followers settled in the Finger Lakes area of New York.
