Located in the Astronaut Memorial Garden it is a tribute to the Apollo I, Space Shuttle Challenger & Columbia astronauts. A simple obelisk with a bronze plaque with the names of the crew members of each of the three missions, it is a sober reminder that the successes we had in space that are show in the exhibits at the New Mexico Space Museum and Space Hall of Fame, came with a human cost.
Originally dedicated to the memory of the seven astronauts who perished when the Challenger Shuttle exploded on January 28, 1986, it featured seven Globe willows, one for each of the crew. After the Columbia disaster, two additional plaques were added for Apollo and Columbia.
