The peninsula according to the book is defined as Montery, as well as Pebble Beach and Salinas.

In Monterey they suggest you go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The aquairum has over 600 species to view, including otters and stingrays. The aquarium is open from 10-6 regular hours (until 5 pm in the winter) Tickets ranger from $17.95 for children and $29.95 for adults.

Also in the area is Cannery Row, the location of the old sardine canneries. Here you'll find some good places to eat and some fun shopping (though it's mostly touristy)

A few miles south of Monterey is Pebble Beach, a private community owned by the Pebble Beach Company. Here you can drive the famous 17 Mile Drive. Entrance fee is about $9 per car. The ride should take anywhere between 1 hour to 3 hours (depending on how many stop you'll take. When you pay your fee, you'll get a self guiding map. I would recommend the Lone Cyprus (see photo in galley) By the Pebble Beach resort is the a small grocery store where you can buy food for a picnic.

The book also mention Salinas and the John Steinbeck House and National Steinbeck Center. Both sites are located less than half a mile from each other.
