Long Description:Conceived by the Oblate fathers in 1922 as a parochial
co-educational school, the Rev. Jesús Prieto arrived at San Agustín
parish in 1925, raising the funds and obtaining the property to
make the school a reality.
Designed by the San Antonio architect, Luis Fuessel, the
building, incorporated elements of the Gothic Revival style in its
pointed arch windows mirroring the next door San Agustín church.
Local contractors Mc. W. Ryan and his apprentice, Alfonso
Leyendecker, completed the building in time for school to open on
Sept. 12, 1927.
The Sisters of the Order of Divine Providence then served the
school until the 1976-77 school year when St. Augustine School was
relocated to the former campus of Ursuline Academy.
The original 1927 school building remains in use as meeting and
religious education space for San Agustín parish, and also carries
the distinction of being a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.
