Long Description:
The construction of the Ranger Dormitory began in 1932 but funding delayed completion until 1936. The building is located on the west side of the central plaza. The two story building is constructed of stone and timber. The lower floor had a common entry area and men and women sides. The womens side had a small living room, three rooms, and bathroom and showers. The mens side had a larger living room and bathrooms. The second floor had four bedrooms, a large dormitory room, men’s showers, dark room, and storage room. The building is now known as the William G. Steel Information Center. It is the main visitor center for the park and is open to the public year-round. The building also contains the Crater Lake Post Office.
