Long Description:
The construction of the Ranger Dormitory began in 1932 but funding
delayed completion until 1936. The building is located on the west
side of the central plaza. The two story building is constructed of
stone and timber. The lower floor had a common entry area and men
and women sides. The womens side had a small living room, three
rooms, and bathroom and showers. The mens side had a larger living
room and bathrooms. The second floor had four bedrooms, a large
dormitory room, men’s showers, dark room, and storage room. The
building is now known as the William G. Steel Information Center.
It is the main visitor center for the park and is open to the
public year-round. The building also contains the Crater Lake Post
Office.
