The city hall for Demopolis is located on the Public Square and is a contributing building to the Confederate Park site on the National Register of Historic Places. Portions of the building date to 1820 in the early days of Demopolis. Demopolis was settled by French Bonapartists in 1817 as the Vine and Olive Colony.
