Long Description:
Tucked off by itself in southeastern Utah, Natural Bridges
National Monument can claim the distinction of being named the
first National Parks unit in the state, beating out Zion by several
months. Natural Bridges never attained the status of a National
Park as so many other of the early National Monuments eventually
did, but in its own right it is world class, since it has the
greatest concentration of natural bridges found anywhere in the
world.
This marker proclaiming its status as a first is also the first
roadside marker you come upon after entering the Park.
In part it reads: Utah's First National Monument...
On April, 16, 1908 President Theodore Roosevelt signed the
proclamation creating Natural Bridges National Monument - Utah's
first National Park Service area.
