Carter's Fort
Three miles east, in Rye Cove, stood Carter's Fort, built by Thomas Carter in 1784. It was a station on the old Wilderness Road from North Carolina to Kentucky.

Located 8 miles from North Fork of the Clinch River, a half mile off from west side Cove Creek, the above fort was known by several names: Rye Cove Fort, Rye Cove Station, Crissman's Fort, Fort Lee, and Carter's Fort.
