The Baton Rouge Zoo is accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. Construction began in 1966 and opened in 1970. Large easy to walk paths. There is an aquarium, petting zoo, outdoor theater, otter pond and a section where endangered species are housed, part of the Species Survival Plans. Rest stops are well placed and vending machines and 2 concession stands help you make it through. There is also a play park for the smaller kids, next to the petting zoo.
