Erwin Schrödinger (1887-1961) is known as the creator of the wave equation for quantum mechanics, which he developed in 1926. Schrödinger's equation allows physicists to compute energy levels for electrons and remains an important tool in particle physics. In 1933 he was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize for physics.
