Long Description:
Because Scafell pike is the highest mountain in England it is also
the one which is climbed the most often, thousands each year make
the pilgrimage to the summit,at weekends it is often standing room
only at the giant summit cairn and the sound of people proclaiming
their success on their mobile phones must be endured whilst calling
here,so for that reason I would recommend a weekday visit.
As expected with this being the roof of England the views are
extensive in all directions.
There are numerous routes to the summit,3 of the most popular are
from Seathwaite in Borrowdale,Old Dungeon Gill in Langdale,or my
preferred route from Wasdale Head, all routes are long tough climbs
and in winter not to be undertaken lightly where proper winter gear
must be carried,ie ice axe crampons map and compass plus the
ability to use them, the Mountain rescue teams are often called out
because many underestimate the difficulty involved and the
possibility of rapid changes in weather.
Altitude in Feet: 3210
