In Norwood, near the center of town, is a building with a very large square wooden tower. This building was once occupied by Plimpton Press, but now is a facility used for storage.

The text in the guide states:

The Plimpton Press (open on request - 10 A.M. preferred; guide furnished), Lenox St., extending over several blocks, is housed in a mammoth red frame building, dominated by a large bell0tower. This press is capable of producing over 50,000 volumes a day.

The building is now quiet. Plimpton Press has been gone for years, and a moving and storage company occupies at least part of the complex. Most of the complex is there - likely a portion of it was taken down to accommodate a strip mall that faces Nahatan Street.

Plimpton Press was started by Herbert M. Plimpton and his brother Howard. In 1882 a book manufacturing company was established in Boston. In 1897, the company was moved to Norwood. The operation employed over 1000 people at its peak. The business, however, was closed in the 1970s. Source: Fanning, Patricia J. The Making of America Series: Norwood - A History.
