"The fountain sculpture is composed of 101 concrete boxes through which water flows in fourteen channels. The basic elements of the sculpture are 10 foot concrete boxes which are roughly 11 ft. in length and 5 ft. square. Thirty-seven of the elements are connected to form the rear base wall and the remaining sixty-four elements are connected to a height of approximately 30 ft. The elements are hollow allowing water to flow through them and pour out into the fountain pool. The pool is approximately 3 feet wide and 18 inches deep, and it surrounds the back of the sculpture.
Landscape architect, Lawrence Halprin collaborated with the artist on the design of the piece. The fountain sculpture was the winner of a limited international competition sponsored by the City of San Francisco in which five sculptors were invited to compete."
