The Tennessee State Capitol (constructed 1845-1977) was designed by engineer and architect William Strictland. It was one of the first buildings in the nation with structrual iron roof trusses. The Capitol grounds were designed by engineers J.A. Hayden and John Bogart and set standard for park development in the region.
