In Needham, at the intersection of Great Plain Avenue and Central Avenue, is a small park where a bronze plaque is located stating that this area is the McIntosh Corner National Historic District. According to the entry in the register, there are 15 buildings and a park listed in this district.
Across the intersection, there is a white historic sign embedded in the stone, marking the location of the McIntosh Tavern (burned down in 1844), kept by Major Ebeneezer McIntosh. On another corner stands the Nathan McIntosh house, currently a grey and white house, which was built in 1829. Behind this house, on Farnum Circle, is the Ebeneezer McIntosh House, built in 1822.
The park is a triangular piece of land bounded by Great Plain Avenue, Noyes Street, and Central Avenue. It is a grass and tree lot, with planted flowers and a few benches. The view is of houses, a church, and a busy intersection.
To learn more about the area, you could go to the Needham Historical Society nearby. It is located by the Newman Elementary School. See their web site for the days and hours they are open.
