Long Description:

The memorial was erected in 1924 to honor military members from Clarke County who lost their live World War I. The memorial was the first memorial erected by the county to honor war dead. The original tablet replaced in 2002 was racially segregated with white war dead on one side and African-American war dead on the other. The replacement tablet has all soldiers listed on one side with additional service members who had been omitted on the first tablet.
