Inscription: T. Ramos Blanco (On base:) "ORDEN-CABALLERO DE LA LUZ" INC./HONOR TO/MOTHERS OF THE WORLD/HONRAMOS "DIA DE LAS MADRES"/MAYO 9, 1948 signed

Description: Free-standing sculpture in relief of a mother and her three children. The mother's back makes up the back of the sculpture from which the figures protrude. The woman holds a small child in her proper left arm and the other two children, a boy and girl, reach up to give her flowers.

Remarks: Commissioned by the Orden Caballero de la Luz, a Cuban brotherhood with lodges in Tampa and Cuba, and donated to the City of Tampa. Idea originated with members of the Tampa lodge, and the Cuban lodges actually commissioned the statue. Originally located in Plant Park in Tampa, the statue was reinstalled as part of the 7th Avenue renovation. IAS files include text of nearby commemorative plaque, a syndicated article which appeared in newspapers about the time of the statue's dedication and additional information.
