Big Bald is right at the TN/NC state line - and the Applachian Trail runs across the peak.

According to the County Higherpoints Association website, the highest point of Unicoi County, Tennessee is Big Bald. This peak is right at the TN-NC border along the Applachian Trail. There is a benchmark (FB3804) on the NC side at 5516' (my GPS read 5506' at highest point I could find). There is also a cache (Big Baldy) on the TN side down in the scrub below the peak. My son Clark and I approached this peak from TN side of Street Gap. From what I can tell, we hiked in 5 miles up 1900' net elevation change from where we had to park the car. The day was perfect - partly cloudy with a nip of fall in the air.
You can drive right up here - if you are a member or have permission to pass through Wolf Laurel ski village. Was up here one time when a SUV with Florida tags pulled up. The couple looked around for less than one minute, and then drove off. Meanwhile, my scout group ate lunch and enjoyed the views.
