Three spherical forms on a grassy area represent buckeye pods in various stages of splitting open after falling from the parent trees in the autumn. Two of the pods have sandblasted maple leaves on their surfaces.

The most spherical of the objects is gray, polished granite and represents a California Buckeye with the shell removed.

A nearby sign reads:

"WINDFALLS" Autumn is the richest season, the season of "mellow fruitfulness", of ripeness and leaf-fall.

The sculpture within this park, "windfalls", is a celebration of this golden season. It was inspired in part by the California Buckeye which has a beautiful form, especially after its fall to the ground from the parent branch. Usually impact causes the outer shell's seam to open, often slightly, revealing the firm, shiny, brown nut, the promise of a new tree inside. [drawings of the three buckeyes]
