OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD
"By Ships We Live"
February 15 1882 the Albion Line sailing ship "Dunedin" left for
London from a wooden wharf near this spot with the first shipment
of frozen meat from New Zealand pioneering a revolution in
transport methods and making possible the start of a major New
Zealand industry.
June 28 1971 the Columbus Line vessel 'Columbus New Zealand'
left this wharf for east coast North American ports inaugurating
the first cellular container ship service from New Zealand and
pioneer a further revolution in the transport of New Zealand
produce.
