This marker was placed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Gulf County. It discrbes how Gulf was split from Calhoun County in 1927. Some of the old timers around here talk about how Wewa (Wewahitchka) is one day's horse ride to Blountstown, the Calhoun County seat, and one day's horse ride to Port St Joe, the new Gulf County seat. Wewa is smack dab in the "you can't get there from here, Forgotten Coast."
