Description: A bronze full-length statue of a Confederate soldier surmounts a tall granite column. The soldier is dressed in uniform and holds a Confederate flag in his proper left arm; he points with his proper right hand. The soldier stands atop a capital which is supported by four horse heads carved from granite. The column is divided in two places by carved rings with ornate leaf design. The bottom section of the column has a bronze seal of the State of Georgia. A pedestal of rock-faced granite topped by polished granite with crenellation supports the column. The pedestal is composed of a cylindrical center with square platforms in three directions. Standing on each platform is a full-length bronze statue. In front is an infantry soldier dressed in uniform, holding a rifle in both hands. On the platform to the proper right, is the figure of an officer, dressed in uniform and pulling a sword out of its scabbard with his proper right hand. On the third platform stands the figure from the artillery holding a ramrod in both hands. The entire monument sits atop a three-tiered base set on a circular granite plaza.

Remarks: Frederick Moynihan sculpted the Infantryman figure. IAS files contain excerpts from Jack Kerr's "Monuments and Markers of the 29 States Engaged at Chickamauga and Chattanooga," (Collegedale, Tenn., The College Press, n.d.); and copy of Georgia Historic Resources form, Historic Preservation Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Atlanta, Georgia. Monument is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures, No. 08838.
