This memorial was placed in this park in 1924 by the Lest We Forget Club and, has had numerous additions to recognize the sacrifice paid for other conflict including the Korean War.

"The monument was placed by the club which formed on February 22, 1922, "by a group of energetic, dedicated women who were widows, wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters of veterans of the First World War. They acted as auxiliary to the Great War Veterans' Association (forerunner of the Legion). This club was given its charter on December 23, 1922. There were twenty-eight charter members."

The club received a parcel of land 137 feet by 240 feet from the Lacombe School Board which they were to use for the park where this monument exists. Memorial Park, now called the Lest We Forget Memorial Park .
McDonald Nurseries planted trees and shrubs, and raised money for memorial trees that were donated by local residents. Most of the funds for the park were raised within the group.
The statue / cenotaph / memorial was placed at a cost of $3,500 the marble statue was put in place in its present location. On the monument are inscribed the names of those who from the community that gave their lives. Since being placed the base of this statue has been updated to include additional conflicts beyond World War 1 when it was placed. The Korean War has been added with the addition of a brass plaque.
Through the years following, many improvements were made to the park. An iron fence, gates, concrete walks, shrubs and flower beds were added.
The Town of Lacombe took over the maintenance of the park on April 30, 1955 on the condition that the park continue to be called the 'Lest We Forget Park' in perpetuity!
