At the point of a peninsula where the Boston neighborhood of South Boston is located, is a roundish park called Castle Island. On this former island can be seen two features from a satellite image that are in the general shape of two five pointed stars. The larger of the two stars is Fort Independence, a former defensive structure that guarded the Boston Inner Harbor. The smaller feature is a playground that was designed to have a similar footprint to the fort.
The two are easy to see against the green grass. Access to the park is easy - drive along the William J. Day Boulevard to the eastern end and park, then walk along the pathway south to a point between them. The fort is visible from the parking lot. The park is a beautiful place to spend time to walk around and see the harbor. The fort is open on some days for tours. See the web site following for details.
