After parking and leaving the vehicle, a large limestone boulder is encountered. The boulder has the words sandblasted on it:

Veterans' Memorial Park

Vinton Parks and Recreation

In honor of all who serve
and have served our Great
Nation in time of Peace
and in time of War.

From there, a Memorial Brickway is on both sides of a small wooden bridge. This brickway has approximately 250 engraved bricks (so far). I took a closeup of of one brick for L. Aschenbrenner USMC 1951-1954. Information on the Brickway is VRPD 701 E A St.

The Memorial continues with another sandblasted limestone boulder. boulder has a picture of the second flag-raising on Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima. The words - Thank you veterans for our freedom.

Two metal benches - one red and one blue - flank the brickway from the bridge. These benches face a raised area of landscaping where the American Flag, The Iowa Flag, and the Flags of the 5 Branches of the Armed Services fly.

To the right of the main memorial, there is another area of raised landscaping. Within this area is a small anchor suspended from a blue metal pole. The plaque reads:

This anchor was used by an Amphibious Vechicle during World War II to drop off soldiers and equipment on the beaches.
