This two-story, 40,000 square feet main city library is complete with adult, teen, and children's reading areas, administrative and staff offices, multi-purpose and conference rooms. The second floor terrace with catering facilities, combined with the first floor patio allows for unique public use for outside services, such as weddings or ceremonies.
The site for the Spanish River Library couldn’t be more beautiful or convenient. The building is located on the north side of Spanish River Blvd., halfway between Military Trail and the I-95 overpass. Two hundred and seven (207) parking spaces are on both sides of an entryway that leads to a circular drive with a covered drop-off. The spacious site also provides a drive-up book drop! The rear of the library is the focal point of the building, with the back of the building facing the existing lake. The rear has impact resistance glass and almost every public space feature's a beautiful, restful view.
But, it’s what’s inside that counts and the design incorporates those things that residents said they want in their new library, and more. There is a significant focus on children and teens, with a larger storytime room, a room just for teens, a large space for children’s materials and activities, and a meeting room is available for larger programs. The building feature's many new electronic resources with two computer labs, an electronic classroom, and several areas for wireless capabilities. For those who want some quiet in their public library, a second floor quiet study room will have glass walls facing out to the lake. And, of course, there will be books, reference materials, and an up-to-date audio-visual collection.
In addition, there is a café for coffee, a bagel, or lunch. A rear terrace facing the lake provides space to eat outside and also provides space for children’s programs. A beautiful rooftop terrace allows library users a space to sit, read, and relax. It also has a spectacular place for parties or event's and is available for rent.
Nearly 1,400 people visit everyday and there are over 105,000 items in the collection.
