 The memorial has a statue of a uniformed Civil War soldier holding a rifle.  The statue is atop a tall shaft on a multi-tiered base.  The base has emblems of the G.A.R and the U.S. Navy.  Bronze for the tablet was taken from the Battleship Maine.  It is located on the grounds of the Hall County Courthouse in Grand Island, Nebraska.
