The memorial has a uniformed Confederate soldier statue made of Italian marble standing on top of a marble Georgia marble shaft. The memorial is inscribed:

1861 -1865

Unveiled June 17, 1909

The memorial has the names of 1,125 soldiers who served in the Civil War inscribed on it.  The memorial was commissioned by the Sumter County Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy for $1,600.  The statue was sculpted in Italy.
