Inside the jail is three floors of jail cells with a spiral staircase in the middle.  Condemned prisoners were hanged by an apparatus at the top of this spiral staircase.

Most of the prison cells had a view of the hanging area and in 1928, there was a famous double execution by hanging in the jail for two murderers.

A court order forced the jail to close in 1982.  Today it is on the National Register of Historic Places.  Unfortunately, it is not open to the public.
