In Canton, off Washington Street, is the Ponkapoag Golf Course, a public golf course with 27 holes available for golfers. This golf course has been around since 1936.
The course is run by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (Mass. DCR). Course No. 1 is a 72-par facility that has a total length of over 6,500 yards. Course No. 2 has a total of 6,200 yards.
The fees depend on age and whether it is a weekday or a weekend day. The one quoted is for a weekend day (the highest rate) golfing 18 holes for all ages. During the weekdays, the rate is $27. Seniors (65 and over) and Juniors (16 and under) are $17 on weekdays. Cart rentals are $31, and club rentals are $15.
One of the features of this course is that hole #3 is near Ponkapoag Pond, a large, shallow pond that is part of the Blue Hills Reservation, also owned by Mass. DCR. The pathway cuts between the tee and the hole. There are signs saying that walkers must yield to golfers teeing off.
