Ponte degli Scalzi is also called the Railway Bridge thanks its location close to the Venice railway station, Santa Lucia. This pedestrian stairway bridge, connecting the Venetian districts Santa Croce and Cannaregio, was built in 1934 by engineer Eugenio Miozzi.
The bridge's design is inspired by the famous Rialto Bridge. Its single arch body is constructed completely from beautiful Istrian white marble. The bridge substituted an old bridge built by the Austrians in 1858 and it is one of the four bridges crossing the Grand Canal along with the Rialto Bridge, the Accademia Bridge and the new Constitution Bridge.
