Long Description:DIRECTIONS TO THE BRIDGE:
From I 90: Take exit 228 to Ohio 11 South. Proceed approximately 6
miles, and exit from Ohio 11 on to Ohio 167 West. Proceed
approximately 4 miles on Ohio 167 heading west. Note in Jefferson
Ohio 167 becomes Ohio 307. Turn right on to Doyle Road heading
north. The bridge is about .9 of a mile north of the intersection
of Ohio 307 and Doyle Road.
PARKING:
There is limited parking for several cars at the bridge. Note
park on the north side of the bridge. Do not block the private
driveway on the south side.
DESCRIPTION:
Bridge Number: 35-04-16. The Doyle Road Bridge is a 94 feet long
covered bridge that spans Mill Creek for Doyle Road in Jefferson
Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. This is one of Ashtabula County's
17 covered bridges, several of which are in the immediate vicinity
of Jefferson. The bridge is located about .9 of a mile north of
Ohio 307. It has a town lattice truss that was reinforced with a
laminated wood arch when the bridge was renovated. The bridge is
one lane at 18 feet 6 inches wide, with a clearance of 13 feet 6
inches. It has a gross load limit of 16 tons. The bridge is
unpainted on both the exterior and interior and has a shingled
roof. Built in 1868 and renovated in 1987, the overall condition of
the bridge is excellent but there is graffiti on the interior.
The arch is not a solid timber but rather a laminate of smaller
sections of wood.
The bridge is equipped with fire protection and what appears to
be smoke alarms on the overhead beams. There is a small data plate
on the bridge.
