DESCRIPTION:
Bridge Number: 35-04-63. The Netcher Road Bridge is a 110 feet long covered bridge that spans Mill Creek for Netcher Road in Jefferson Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. This is one of Ashtabula County's 17 covered bridges, several of which are in the immediate vicinity of Jefferson. The bridge is located about .2 miles south east of the end East Jefferson Street. It has an laminated wood arch truss with inverted Haupt walls. The bridge is 2 lanes at 22 feet wide, with a clearance of 14 feet 6 inches. Of recent construction, the bridge has concrete abutments. The bridge is painted barn red with white trim on the exterior and has a shingled roof. The interior is not painted. Constructed in 1998-99, the overall condition of the bridge is excellent with little or no graffiti. The bridge incorporates some design features that Red Shoe refers to as ginger bread: spires of the roof, fancy ribbing on the peak of the roof, and pointed ends on the siding planks. The design is called "Neo Victorian" on the web page given below.
The arch is not a solid timber but rather a laminate of smaller sections of wood. The arch also is not a continuous beam, rather it is two half arches connected with heavy metal pivot at the center.
The bridge is equipped with fire protection and what appears to be smoke alarms on the overhead beams. A missing feature in our opinion is no name or data plate on the bridge.
