On Harvard Street in the Hyde Park section of Boston, on a hill, is the Hyde Park Branch of the Boston Public Library system. The building has a good view of the landscape southwest of the center. It is also a good place for people within the community to sit down and study, read, or do research. There is a magazine room with a fireplace (likely not used). There are meeting rooms, and a children's room.

Hyde Park was a town before it was annexed to the city of Boston in 1912. The first library in then the town of Hyde Park was in 1873 in Everett Square (where River Street meets Fairmount Avenue). In 1844, the library moved to larger space in the Masonic Block on Fairmount Avenue. In December of 1898, ground was broken for the core of the present building, which was completed September 1899. The glass and steel addition was added, starting in 1997. On January of 2000, the wing was open in a dedication ceremony, with Mayor Thomas Menino present.

The library can be a hopping place with people constantly going through. They have storytelling, including a reading done by Red Sox pitcher - and Hyde Park native - Manny Delcarmen.

Parking is plenty. There is a municipal lot in front of the library. The plaza between the parking lot and Harvard Ave has several bronze tiles that relate to literacy and Hyde Park.
