York Theater was built in the late 1920s. Historic photo is 8 x 10 b&w; estimated date is 1936 - 1937 based on 1936 release date for RAMONA. The theater has since been remodeled into retail space with a level floor and dropped ceiling; traces of the old ornate decoration survive in the hidden portions of the structure.

The YORK sign now serves as a "welcome" on the York County Fair Grounds; the upper portion of the facade was toppled by a 1993 wind storm.

A specialty fabric store called the Quilt Basket now occupies the space. The photos have been cross-posted to the "Vintage Movie Theaters" category.
