The York Police Memorial is located at the northeast corner of the
York Municipal Building (WM758W) which also houses the
York Police Department (WM7BTW).
The memorial honors the memory of Officer James M. Richardson, II who was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance call on April 22, 1977. The incident is noted in a March 13, 2009 York News-Times article noting the establishment of a statewide police memorial at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island, NE.
The flag at this location is lighted and flies around the clock; the location is likewise lighted and visible twenty-four hours per day.
