Sprint Car Hall of Fame promoters Lanny and Beverly Edwards celebrate their 37th Year of promoting the Southwest’s most famous dirt track. The Devil’s Bowl continues its tradition as an innovator in bringing affordable auto racing entertainment to Texas race fans every Saturday night from mid March into October. The Devil’s Bowl features five exciting classes of race cars and several special events with the ASCS Outlaw Sprints and SUPR Late Models.
The Devils Bowl Speedway was opened in 1949 in Dallas at the back of Buckner Blvd’s drive in theater. The Bowl was moved to its current location in Mesquite in 1968. Lanny and Beverly Edwards took over the Bowl in 1972. Several professional Indy car and NASCAR drivers raced at the Devils bowl before they became pros. Some examples are Indy car drivers Johnny Rutherford, Al Unser Jr., Jim McCreath, and NASCAR’s Kenny Schrader. Lanny Edwards also was given the first achievement award handed out by Texas Motor Speedway when the speedway was first opened. They award was then named after him and is now called the Lanny Edwards Achievement Award. The award is handed out to successful short track race track promoters.
