Born on a farm near this pond, George Washington Morrison Nutt, (1814-1881) also known as "Commodore Nutt", was a dwarf who toured with P.T. Barnum's circus.

Advertised as "The smallest man in the world", he later married, traveled the world and entertained royalty and heads of state with General Tom Thumb's troupe. President Lincoln actually interrupted a cabinet meeting to receive him upon a visit.
