Anne Shirley is the red-headed, pigtailed heroine of "Anne of Green Gables", a much loved story by Prince Edward Island's Lucy Maude Montgomery. It was first published in 1908, but the book and its sequels contine to be popular with readers of all ages around the world. The story has also been made into a tv series, a movie, and a musical.
Green Gables, the home of Miss Montgomery as well as Anne Shirley, is shown in the background of the graphic. It still stands, and is open to visitors.
