Marina Holmes Langlois published 1948,

On November 20, 1855 Joseph Derivera sold one fourth acre of
land to the school board for school purposes only, and a school was
built.
In April 1863 the board voted to sell the old schoolhouse to the
highest bidder, and levy a tax to build a new school.
