Woodward lived in Franklin between 1830 and 1885. His home was acquired and restored by the Town of Franklin as a repository for collections and information relating to the history of Franklin and the surrounding area.
Dr. Ashbel Woodward was born in Willington, CT and was educated at Bodoin College in Maine. He settled in Franklin in the 1830s in the house that is now the Woodward Museum. He was the town physician, as well as an active local historian, antiquarian and author on a number of subjects.
